CHARITIES

The world is a big and wonderful place... Except it's not all that wonderful.
Even if you're not traveling the world as frequently as yours truly – or at all – you'd have to be ignorant to not have gotten the memo about everything not being entirely up to par. People need our help; nature needs our help, and we CAN make a difference.
These are the charities I support in my humble effort to make our big, wonderful world just a tad more wonderful. (Or less shitty, depending on how you see it). My hope is that you will learn a bit more about these organizations and support at least one – in any way possible. Any help helps.
Better Globe
Planting trees in East Africa, offsetting CO2, combating deforestation, and providing local farmers with better-paid jobs than otherwise. This eventually enables local communities to take micro-loans, boosting financial growth so schools can be built and clean drinking water can be made available for everyone.
UN Climate Relief
The UN effort against climate change, especially benefiting vulnerable people and communities.
Ideas Beyond Borders
Disseminating knowledge and education, creating local jobs and growth as well as opportunities for women in countries where knowledge, education, and women are being oppressed and censored by fundamentalist Islamic regimes, such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Saudi-Arabia.
Build-A-School Initiative
The name says it all: Building and maintaining schools as well as training and upskilling teachers in Africa.
Humanists International
Finghting globally for human rights, democracy, freedom of speech, knowledge, and science, as well as freedom for humanists, freethinkers, and non-religious people being persecuted, oppressed, and incarcerated for their beliefs (or lack thereof) in especially radically religious regimes, but even also places in Europe and the U.S.
Kiva
Providing vulnerable private people and small business owners in developing countries with interest-free micro-loans. It's possible to donate an general loan so one's money is distributed by the discretion of the organization itself, but you can also filter by types of causes and places worldwide to support specific people. And once you get the money back, you can lend them out to someone else who needs them. 96% loan repayment rate – more than for most banks.
There will be more charities added as I learn about them. If there's a charity that's important to you, feel free to drop me a line and a link at mail@globalmetalblog.com.
