Post-typhoon greetings from a boat ashore in Hong Kong

30-10-2025

Here I am on the last day of my big 6-week Asia trip from South Korea over Taiwan and finally Hong Kong. And like the two former, the latter is definitely also worth a visit.

If you immerse yourself in Hong Kong and go on some guided historical tours like we did, you'll become a bit more aware of the city's historical importance, and of how and why the place could ever get so hella wealthy as is the case. But apart from the jaw-dropping inner city (maybe not jaw-dropping if you're from L.A. or New York, but damn well so if you're from lil' ol' Denmark like me), the temples, the sights, and the surrounding nature also play their part in making the whole thing well worth your time. And while the place IS expensive, especially rent-wise, and even relatively so for a westerner, public transportation is still dirt cheap, and food and drinks are normally fair, if not more.

We didn't find any metal or even rock bars, which is a big critical remark for a huge place like this, but I suppose the whole Chinese culture has something to do with that. And we did still find a coupla places with bitchin' cocktails and live music.

Maybe you don't wanna go to China given the political climate, and maybe Hong Kong technically doesn't count as a country of its own, but neither of those should deter you from visiting the city. In my world, and even though getting around is a hassle, this place is still magnificent.
