You can almost see the cathedral in the background
Finally back in Sofia – although as it turns out, I should plan my business trips better and not order tickets and accommodation before I've got an actual fucking deal locked in. But as I'm saying, it's not the worst place to get caught with unfinished plans.
Of the things I'm not mentioning here, some of the architecture in Sofia is pretty astounding. Although it's got its share of decrepit appendices from Communism like the rest of the Balkans, it's also got some spectacular buildings – not the least of all that ol' Nevski cathedral here. And although the city center is very walkable, public transportation is basically free, one ride costing you 1.6 BGN, the equivalent of €0.8. Yes, you read that right. And a döner or half a liter of good, local beer will set you back around 5-6 BGN, the equivalent of €2.5-3. (As we all know, those are solid yardsticks of financial measurement.) And as you can gather if you're just marginally clever, calculating the EUR equivalent of BGN is pretty easy.
If you remember the article I wrote about Sofia, you will know that the one metal bar that I was looking forward to revisiting the most is called BarBarossa – a goddamn pirate-themed metal bar. And this time, I spent not one, but two cool evenings there, immersed in the company of nice local people, beers, and spirits, as well as people, beers, and spirits from various other countries. Same thing goes for Adam's Bar. This time around, I actually managed to talk to people – even though they've gotten a lot more foosball tables since last time, it's not the only item on the agenda any more.
Also, mt. Vitosha's close by and a nice hike; the nature's pretty; the airport's only 25 minutes by metro, and there are hella prostitutes. Yay for all those.
